Most parents know of the importance of documenting the newborn stage. They’re brand new to the world, your family has grown (in size and love) and they’re so adorable and itty bitty. Not to mention, they change so much in those first few weeks, and it’s nice to have that reminder of what they looked like when you first met. If you’re here, chances are you’ve gone to google to search “milestone photography near me”. And that means that you are already aware of how special this time is to capture.
At Kahla Kristen Photography, our First Year Collection is the most popular – and for good reason. Documenting every important milestone from their first days at home, to their sweet rolls and smiles, to learning to sit, stand and walk. We capture every big moment from birth to first birthday. So that you can always remember the first year of baby’s life. Because it’s true what they say – babies don’t keep. And the first year flies by faster than any parent can truly imagine.
Baby M was just around six months for this milestone session. She was the perfect age – full of smiles, delicious baby rolls, and at that adorable stage of grabbing her toes and sitting up independently. I usually recommend waiting until baby is sitting on their own to document this mid-year (ish) milestone, because it’s a sweet one you’ll want to remember.
Now of course, this timeline will look different for every baby. Typically, sitting happens between 5 and 9 months. Yes, quite the variation! But, that’s the beauty of your unique baby. They will be just who they are – and we aim to capture just that.
Some of my favourite questions to ask during this session are:
This session is one where they’re really starting to show personality, versus the sleepy newborn session prior. So it’s extra special to have preserved baby’s unique personality during this time. These questions help guide our session in a way that feels special to you, your family and your baby.
For this session, baby loved to fly on mom’s legs through the air, and mom wanted to be sure that we captured her big, beautiful smile and chunky rolls. So we spent half of the session in clothes, and the other half just hanging out as baby’s are happiest – in her diaper and nothing more.
We have one session left with this little sweetheart. She was recently turned one, and mom has decided to wait to capture her first birthday milestone session until she’s walking independently – another big milestone in baby’s first year! Having a year’s worth of memories to look back on will be an invaluable treasure for this family, especially as baby M grows with each passing year.
We loved capturing this timeless, heartfelt milestone session, and just know that these memories will be favourites for many generations to come (along with the many colour images we captured!)
At KKP, we believe that ensuring that our memories live on – in ways more tangible than our Instagram account – allows us to continue to tell these stories, long after the people in them have grown. As a newborn photographer and storyteller, my job doesn’t feel complete until your favourite moments are forever preserved in print.
Our clients trust us to help tell their stories through a variety of heirloom artwork pieces. Stunning, custom gallery walls made to fit their home, classic, sturdy albums meant to withstand many generations of little hands perusing, and print boxes made of the finest materials that can be cherished, enjoyed, and passed down. Because we believe that your legacy is so much more than an Instagram post – it deserves to be told and enjoyed, for many generations to come.
Expecting this year? We have a few remaining spots for 2023. Let’s plan your newborn photography session! Learn more about the KKP Experience here, and come say hello! I can’t wait to preserve your most special moments with the ones you love.
