As an Edmonton maternity photographer, one of the hardest parts of my job is working around our very late sunsets during summer.

Most families with young children have an early bedtime schedule – sometimes many hours prior to sunset. We always work hard to accommodate families so that little ones are happy and content. And while pushing nap times, utilizing some gentle bribery and being very engaging with little ones does work, some families are still happiest with an earlier shoot time.

This is why fall is a great time for family photos – we can still get that beautiful glow that only sunset has to offer, while allowing little ones to stick with their usual bedtimes.

The Beauty + Magic

There is a reason why so many people love this time of year for family photos – fall photography in Edmonton is truly magical.

The stunning colours, the falling, crunchy leaves and the feeling of a new season upon us. For many people, fall is a popular choice for photos because the world is extra stunning around every corner. Not only that, but fall also marks the beginning of a new school year, which for many people is a special time to document those quickly growing little ones as they prepare for a new grade.

The Weather

Summer in Edmonton can be absolutely beautiful, but it can also bring with it plenty of bugs, humidity and sweat. Early Fall is a beautiful time weather-wise, as there are fewer bugs, but it’s still warm and comfortable. We have been lucky with some extra mild falls these past few years, where sleeveless dresses and outfits are perfectly comfortable for the whole family!
