Choosing the perfect location for your newborn session is so important. After all, light and location (in addition to wardrobe, emotive posing, and so many other things!) can really make or break a session. It is especially important when trying to achieve the light and airy look that you see in my work to shoot in neutral spaces with plenty of natural light.
So when it comes to photographing newborn sessions, most of my clients wish to shoot in the comfort of their own home. After all, it’s the space where you spend most of your days with your favourite people in the world. But, for one reason or another, some clients find themselves looking for an alternative to an in-home session. So if that’s you, fear not! I have some wonderful options to help you achieve the beautiful, light and airy images you desire, even if your home doesn’t feel like the right fit.
Local Studios.
There are a handful of gorgeous, light-filled and neutral studios in the Edmonton area that I highly recommend. Upon booking your session with me, I will pass along recommendations that will help us capture gorgeous images in a relaxed setting for you and your family. While these come at an extra cost, the space more than makes up for this! Many have a variety of beautiful furniture to work with– everything from beds to couches to even living room set ups. This is something that I’m happy to coordinate for us in order to make things as easy as possible for expectant parents.
Show homes.
While this one might seem unconventional, hear me out! There are some stunning show homes in the Edmonton area. Think open concept, neutral spaces with an abundance of natural light. And the best part? They’re completely free! There are a quite a few to choose from, they have that “at home” feel (without any cleaning required on your part!) and again, I coordinate all the bookings to make your job as easy as possible! I love that show homes allow us to shoot an “in-home” session in a space that is perfectly photogenic– utilizing everything from the gorgeous kitchens to the stylish living rooms, master bedrooms and even nurseries! (Yes, quite a few even have nurseries designed!)
Outdoors.
A beautiful option for your newborn session during the Spring and Summer months is an outdoor session! There is something so beautiful and natural about photographing a new baby surrounded by nature. And with the warmer temperatures in these two seasons, it can be the perfect alternative to an in-home session. While outdoor sessions can be slightly more challenging to coordinate, as we want specific temperatures to keep baby happy as can be, they are also some of my absolute favourites. Toddlers have space to run and explore, we get to work with perfect light (in the perfect locations I’m happy to recommend!) and the outcome is always beautiful.
I know that you want your newborn session to be as perfect as possible, and with a handful of amazing location options to choose from, we can ensure that happens! If you’ve been thinking about planning your newborn session, get in touch here and let’s chat! I’d love to hear your vision for your perfect newborn session.
