As a new mom, I know just how much time and care you’ve put into preparing your new baby’s nursery. Endless hours spent pouring over Etsy to find the perfect, hand-crafted mobile; innumerable evenings spent laying on the couch, rubbing your growing tummy and scrolling Pinterest; and many, many dollars spent bringing your vision to life. That’s why, at every newborn session, I make a point to capture a few special images in the space that you so thoughtfully designed while awaiting the arrival of your precious little one.
From sweet little detail shots of each carefully selected item, to special moments captured of your family in this treasured space, I aim to help you always remember the room you first brought your baby home to.
Though, despite the fact that baby’s nursery is an important part of telling your newborn story, I often have moms fret over the fact that it’s the smallest room in the house, with the least amount of natural light. Being a mostly natural light shooter, we admittedly spend the majority of your newborn session in rooms that tend to have an abundance of light, such as the master bedroom and the living room. Yet, even if your baby’s nursery is a window-less cave in the basement (I mean, I have yet to come across this scenario, but you never know), we can still capture some sweet moments in baby’s first room.
This is because, to every session, I bring along an artificial, but surprisingly natural-looking, light source. Not only does this give us the freedom to shoot in any room, but it also allows us to capture beautiful, luminous portraits on even the cloudiest of days (and let’s be honest, being an Edmonton newborn photographer, we come across many of these!)
So whether baby’s nursery has the best light in the house, or is darker than a cave, rest easy knowing that we can (and will!) capture some special moments for you in their very first bedroom. After all, this space is a part of their story, and it’s a story worth telling.
